review 1: I love the premiss of this book. The girl in the circus...however, I would have liked to see more of "circus" life. It was glossed over in the book. The book would have rated much higher if the main character was not TSTL. She was so whiny, incompetent and dependent on the hero that I wanted to throw the book, but I was reading it on my nook (only drawback of an ereader!) I am not sure I will read the 2nd in the series, it was just eh for me.
review 2: Intriguing. You'd think a teen that travels with the circus, then finds herself along w/ the company grounded near Seattle WA & having to go to public school to finish out her schooling just another YA teeny bopper novel about angst, fitting in, relationships, etc. etc. And there is a tad bit of that, to be real
... moreistic. C'mon! Circus trapeze artist and such that are 16, 17 yr olds just folding into your school for the spring quarter - that's gonna bring excitement, talk. But add the paranormal, magic, secrets, danger oh and budding love story to this teen's true destiny - it's delicious! Only "sleight" I would give this book is inconsistent writing. I felt in parts the writing was really tight, smooth, engaging. Other parts, jumped from a scene that didn't seem to yet come to a clean conclusion to another. It felt a bit disjointed, like a dropped call in parts -missing transition. But overall I enjoyed this story and am looking forward to the adventures in Book 2! less
