review 1: I received this book from the author for an honest review. Olivia Peterson is on her way to Chicago after her husband of thirty years Alan is transferred. They have drifted apart but with the children grown and moving maybe they can rekindle that flame. Change can be good. Alan has been straying with a military friend Ash while waiting for Olivia. Arriving in Chicago, Alan is out of town so Ah is the one to meet her flight. Wow, what a man. Weeks later and Alan still hasn't retuned. Ash is the one taking care of her being her friend, taking her out to dinner and helping her get settled in a new town. Until the day Alan calls and destroys her world and Ash is left to pick up the pieces. Olivia is a wonderful person, she is up beat, after being in one place all her marrie... mored life she is up rooted taken to a new city and dumped. Makes you want to reach in the book and bitch slap Alan. But then there is Ash a widower. So sweet and caring. You can't help but fall in love with him. The book was realistic, with Ash and Olivia becoming more then friends. trying to merge to separate families together. They have the ups and downs. Children thinking their parents shouldn't move on. Some hating Alan, others having problems with Ash and Olivia. Each character in the book serves a purpose and it all comes together. Not without a lot of emotions.
review 2: Olivia has dedicated her life to being the perfect servant, i.e. she has gotten so wrapped up in being a wife and a mother that she has lost all sense self. One day she is forced to give up the home she built to follow her husband across the country. Not only does she find herself a stranger in new surroundings, it’s not long before she learns that she has been lied to, cheated on, and abandoned. During the interim, she meets Ash, and the pieces to a new puzzle of a life fall into place as Olivia begins to understand who she really is.This was an interesting read for me. I could in no way relate to the type of situation that Olivia came from, yet I got her. It would have been really easy for the author to swap out Olivia’s well-established character traits and give her new ones to more dramatically drive home the situation, but she held true to her creation. There are many underlying messages here, namely, just because you think you are weak does not mean you are. We all have our inner strengths, and we can fight adversity and grow without compromise. I very much look forward to seeing how Olivia continues to grow in the next book. less
