review 1: The art is adorable (I may have shared in another review how adorable sloths can be) but Sparky makes a difficult main character due to his total lack of excitement. I find myself just as frustrated with the book as our main character is with her pet's lack of action. On the other hand I kind of love that at the end of the story, Sparky does not make some miraculous change, but that his owner simply accepts him as he is.
review 2: A young girl receives a promise from her mother that she can have a pet "as long as it doesn't need to be walked or bathed or fed". With help from her school librarian she finds the perfect pet. A sloth. And so the story continues, sometimes funny, with occasional angst, and ending with a tender moment. Just the premise brings back me... moremories of begging for a pet. A beautifully illustrated picture book for all ages. less
