review 1: This book had me in tears! I absolutely loved this book. It had so much honesty and truth in it, I never read a book with that much. Charlie's life was upside down, and the way he handled it is, is a way a teenager his age would've handled it, and I'm glad the author wrote this book the way that it is written. I loved how Charlie dealt with the friendzone, and slowly got over it. It was sort of... crappy that Charlie had issues with him and his need to throw up every time he ate something and thought he overate it and the fact that nobody was really there for him. His mom wasn't there because of her running away constantly all the time, his dad wasn't there because of his need to cheat on his wife, his friend Ahmed wasn't there, and lastly, Charlotte just couldn't help bec... moreause Charlie would bottle up his problems, and when it was a bad time, it suddenly all poured out, and that is exactly what happens in a teenagers life. The author did a great job on this book, and I know for a fact I will buy this book in the future and read it again! :D
review 2: Charlie is a high school senior who is returning to school after having shed thirty pounds but few of his social insecurities. He has a hip best friend, a crush on the hot new girl (who is not good enough for him, in my opinion), a mom who is mentally unstable, a distant dad who is having an affair, and a caring photography teacher who helps Charlie develop his talent and find something good about himself. He also has an eating disorder. He binges and purges in an effort to feel better during highly emotional moments. There's a lot going on in the novel, but Sanchez does a good job of blending the issues and capturing a struggling male teen's voice. If anything, I wanted more of the bulimia issue. It's rare to see a male MC in a YA novel with an eating disorder; it's worth exploring even more. less
