review 1: I bought this book because I have allowed my chickens to free range in my garden and they have destroyed it. We finally gave them a yard of their own, and I wanted to add some hard to destroy but nice to look at plants. This book will help, even though it's not precisely what I was looking for. It's closer to meeting my needs than any other book out there. Beautiful pictures and some really good tidbits of information buy this book a 3 star rating. (I'm holding back the other two stars for the book that exactly meets my needs.)
review 2: I liked this book so much, I bought a copy to use as a reference guide. Admittedly, I have not read any other books on how to raise chickens, but this book is so thorough & easy to understand, I may not need to.The book details... more ideas on everything from coop design/materials,landscape design, protection from predators, composting, training chickens, solutions to common chicken problems, etc.The most helpful part of the book, for me, was the "Plants with Purpose" chapter which lists the best chicken-friendly plants. There were several examples of shelter plants, chicken-resistant plants, foraging plants, plants for fragrance, plants as noise barriers, edible plants for you & your chickens, fruit/nut trees, plants to avoid that are toxic to chickens.Like I said, I liked it so much I bought a copy which I will be highlighting & marking every page. less
