review 1: I couldn't really get into this book and i think the reason was because the characters were so unlikable and I just could not get into their stories or worlds. it wasn't just because their experiences were so different than mine, it was more their mindset and reactions to different situations. occasionally I would get drawn in to one of their pasts or one of the various stories, but then something would happen that would make me not like them again. Anna is narcissistic and mean, Portia depressed and pathetic, and Emery an afterthought. not a favorite of mine.

An amazingly dysfunctional family - a great read, funny and absorbing and very sad at times.

I liked The Summer of Naked Swim Parties, but did not like this one. It was a drag to read.
