review 1: A book like this makes me wonder why I don't just write a book...everything about this book was lamentable. The narrator/main character is a hot mess, and not in a good way. Everyone in her life is also a train wreck...and I am someone who enjoys reading about alternative lifestyles, people living off the grid or groups who are typically overlooked.Much better books on alternative lifestyles - ie, not suburban or urban yuppies exist and I'd point you to: Drop City, Motherless Brooklyn, My abandonment and for different lives/families: Henry House, The Family Fang, Skippy dies, Me before you.So many better choices, you might wonder why I wasted my time. I kept reading this book with the hopes that it would get better. It was on so many lists that I wanted to give it a fa... moreir shake, and it simply never got better! Don't bother...
review 2: I loved "The Summer of Naked Swim Parties," and Jessica Anya Blau did not disappoint with this wild ride, which was exactly my sense of humor and reminded me of my own writing style.Highly improbable things happen when Allie steals a Wonder Bread bag full of uncut cocaine from her employer in an effort to recoup wages owed to her. It's hilarious, crazy fun with plenty of life lessons, too. Recommended. less

It was the supporting characters that kept me going. The protagonist was one dimensional.

Enjoyable -- if unbelievable -- story. Really liked the ending.
