review 1: This book was absolutely beautiful.Written entirely in letters, it tells the story of a Scottish poet named Elspeth living on the Isle of Skye and an American who begin a correspondence that becomes so much more against the backdrop of World War I. In alternating chapters we read the story of Elspeth's daughter, who is trying to find out about her mother's past and discover who her father was.I listened to this as an audiobook, and I can honestly say it was one of the most well done audios I have ever listened to. Each of the characters was read by a different actor, and the accents were perfect. They also had a wonderful talent for conveying the emotion behind the words. I felt as though the characters were real and speaking directly to me.I don't often give five stars- b... moreut this book definitely earned them.
review 2: I chose this book while roaming the library, just because the title and cover seemed alright and it had a WW theme. I was not expecting it to tug at my heart and be so good.It hit close to home in a lot of aspects and the story is real and you can understand the characters. There is no over description of things, but also no real lack of information to frustrate you. Very interesting plot that goes through both WW. less

This book took awhile for me to get into, but once I was into it, I thought it was fantastic!

Easy read with lots of romance. Somewhat predictable but sweet nonetheless.
