review 1: An enjoyable historical fiction told entirely through letters. A romance begins between Elspeth, a poet living on the Isle of Skye, and David, an American attending a university in Illinois, in the years preceding the First World War. Letters from Elspeth's daughter, and her romantic interest, a pilot named Paul serving in WW II, alternate to tell both stories. Recommended for Historical fiction lovers! review 2: I love epistolary novels so when I saw the format of this novel, I just had to pick it up. It did not disappoint! A love story begins between a jolly American college student and a young Scottish poet as the first world war brews in Europe. Fast forward to World War II and another young woman trying to understand her mother's past. It isn't hard to ... moreconnect the dots, but it's still a lovely story to read. less
