review 1: So disappointing for so many reasons. I picked this up because an author I consider a guilty pleasure gave it a good review, completely ignoring a 1 star brilliant review by an author whose work I greatly admire. There are several problems here dealing with gender roles, submission and misogyny that have been beautifully detailed by Alexi and GHOULIO already. If I knew how to do links here I would but their reviews are easy to find on Goodreads and they do reviews like an art form. Go check them out.My problems, on top of those listed there, are the use of words like buttocks and 'his sex' instead of ass, globes, cock, dick or whatever during the sex scenes. They read like a teenager writing fantasy. I can almost hear a Beevis style giggle "He said buttock". The author is... more writing adult male on male sex but using words like a tween whispering about body parts they aren't quite old enough to know what to do with yet. This book is basically a Harlequin Presents format skewed a little to try and make it fit the m/m genre. Rich alpha male swoops in, sweeps damsel off her feet, overpowers her with his rugged masculinity then grovels for her hand in marriage, we even get a virgin cherry popping! Problem is THERE ARE NO FREAKING HEROINES HERE!! I'm giving it two stars because there were parts I did find entertaining and as another reviewer stated if it's your first toe into m/m fiction it's it's enough like the usual het romances to ease you into the genre. If you like those kinds of stories have at it. If you want really great m/m fiction where the characters act and sound like real men I'd be happy to point you in that direction. That's where I'm headed.
review 2: I bought this when a friend gave a negative, but very entertaining, review of this. I had to find out what was so wrong. I have to admit that I actually really liked this book. What I liked about it was...Law. He was overbearing, a complete and utter asshole, and very much self-absorbed. But you know what? He was fucking HOT! I couldn't help but fall completely under his spell. "Get in the car." Unghf yes sir! less
