review 1: I received a copy of this book, for review purposes, from Goodreads as part of their first-reads program. Jean G. Goodhind is a pseudonym of Jeannie Johnson. She is a Goodreads author. Jean has created a new facebook group- Women Mystery Writers to unite female mystery writers as they write their novels and series( 2011 information) She has written 9 in this, the Honey Driver series, of which Walking With Ghosts is number 3. I have 1,7 and 8 on my kindle as she was offering them for free at the time. Please check to see they are still available at the time of this post. I was concerned, as I always am when I jump into the middle of a series, that I would miss something. I jumped in with both feet and was swept off them. Honey Driver is funny, likeable and would make a grea... moret friend. At least around her, life would never be dull!! I read the entire book in one sitting and yes, missed precious sleep to do so. In this, the third Honey Driver book, Honey is still trying to keep up appearances at the hotel she owns, working as police liaison officer for the hotels of Bath and trying to avoid her ostentatious and flamboyant mother. She is being stalked by a man on a motorcycle and now there is a murder in the vicinity that has something to do with the recent ghost walk. Honey has accompanied professor of the paranormal, Mary Jane, on a ghost walk. The character of Mary Jane is the comic relief in this story...we all know someone like her. The question is, how to restore the safety and order of this Bath, England community to its' proper place while solving the crime, avoiding your mother, surviving an American ex-pats' driving while in a bright pink Cadillac with no idea of British road courtesy, and managing a hotel and client list while figuring out your romantic involvement with the local constabulary. All in a day's work, right? Humorous and lighthearted, this book is a gem. The books states Honey Driver is Bath's answer to Miss Marple ( though younger and fuller of figure). I would agree for the most part. I think this series is funny, a quick read and I look forward to reading the rest as soon as possible. What a delight!!
review 2: Da die Kurzbeschreibung in diesem Fall ausreicht und ich nicht zu viel vorwegnehmen möchte, gibt es dieses Mal keine Zusammenfassung von mir.„Mord zur Geisterstunde“ gehört zur Honey Driver-Reihe, in der Honey versucht, jeden Fall zu lösen.Da ich die Vorgänger nicht gelesen habe, kann ich leider nicht sagen, ob sich die Charaktere weiterentwickelt haben, allerdings muss ich sagen, dass das Miteinander zwischen Honey und Steve mir an den meisten Stellen zu viel wurde.Die Dialoge zwichen den beiden empfand ich als aufgesetzt und es scheint, als wollen beide zu viel auf einmal, verlieren sich dabei aber völlig selbst.Obwohl dieses Buch dem Genre Krimi angehört, konnte ich nicht viel davon entdecken. Es kam weder die nötige Spannung, noch die Faszination am Fall auf.Der vergleich mit Agatha Christie hinkt daher gewaltig.Allerdings konnte mich der Schreibstil trotz seiner Langatmigkeit an manchen Stellen recht gut unterhalten. Ideenlosigkeit kann man der Autorin nicht vorwerfen. Mir kam es eher so vor, als hätte sie zu viel auf einmal gewollt und daher wurden die Ideen mehr schlecht als recht umgesetzt. Auch die Gedankensprünge sind der Autorin nicht wirklich gut gelungen.Manchmal ist weniger einfach mehr.Ob ich weitere Bücher über Honey Driver lese, bleibt daher ungewiss.Ein Pluspunkt ist allerdings das tolle Cover, dessen Farben mich direkt angesprochen hat.Auch die Kurzbeschreibung ist gelungen, führte mich aber stellenweise in die Irre, da ich einfach etwas anderes/besseres erwartet habe.Von daher würde ich diese Buchreihe nur wahren Honey Driver Fans empfehlen.Reihenfolge„Mord ist schlecht fürs Geschäft“ (2009)„Dinner für eine Leiche“ (2009)„Mord zur Geisterstunde“ (2010)„Mord nach Drehbuch“ (2011) less
