review 1: I used to listen to my mother read to me when I was a kid. There was this book collection with dozen of illustrated fairytale books that my grandmother bought for me and my brother. And there was this story about a spoiled princess that refused all her suitors calling them names and insulting them. I kinda liked her. I tried to find that story and see how original or different versions look like but I never found it. The problem was that the most important part of the story was changed. Prince/king didn't have a beard but a long nose, so the story was called in literal translation "Prince Big-nose". So it was no wonder I couldn't find it. And imagine after so long I stumbled across this book and read summary that is so much alike the fairytale I've heard so many times as a... more child, I was very excited and I had hopes for this book and it didn't disappoint. It had very skilfully balanced amount of romance adventure and fantasy, my favorite genres. I've noticed that lots of heroines that tell their story from first person perspective usually feel like liars and hypocrites because they tell us what they think they are and then act and think like a complete different person. But Rinda was different. I felt that her first person perspective was truthful. I liked her from start to the end. And Alek was very different that other romance heroes which was very refreshing and sweet. You may wonder why I gave it 4 starts instead of five, but every book has it's weaknesses. One of them was that this book was so short. I finished it too soon I wanted more.
review 2: A wonderfully written retelling! At no point in the story I was annoyed by the main character even if it was supposed to be that way. Her motives were always reasonably and I was quite fond of her. And the developement of her relationship with Alek was - despite the short period they were together - so beautiful as well as the developement of her character throughout the book. I never suspected to be so pleased by this story, but I really really loved it! less
