review 1: At first, I felt a slight down at how I felt the book was skimming the surface of the events in this fictionalized account of a rescuer in WWII. But as it went on, I actually found myself really liking it. It is spartan and spare and yet manages to convey quite a wealth of information, feeling and character. The view points shift but never bewilder and instead give you a view of the same events through different eyes. Which helps bring depth to this short, but excellent novel. Very well done.
review 2: A very quick and light read on a very heavy topic. As a history major I studied the holocaust in great detail; one course had me writing a final paper on blame- for the acts, I couldn't, or wouldn't, play that game and wrote on those that stood against the regime
... more and those that saved lives, while putting their own lives in danger. This is a simply crafted fictionalization of a true story. Well done. less
