Solomon's Oak
review 1: I enjoyed Solomon's Oak. If you've ever experienced loss in your life, you'll be able to connect with Mapson's characters at some level. This is a slow-paced, well-developed story of three people whose lives come together and grow warm and tender like fruit kissed by the sun. All have experienced loss and are in various stages of grief. Anger and pain come and go, but their relationships develop despite their loss.Though there was a good amount of predictability in the story, the way in which the relationships were woven together made up for the inevitable plot. Sometimes more than time is needed to overcome grief.
review 2: Really enjoyed this book. The location was familiar and one I love (Central California). There were dog characters and dog rescue. A re
... morescue Pit Bull named "Roadie" also makes an appearance on page 60. Loved the paragraph that used lyrics from "Trees" by Rush. The use of trees and New Mexico added to the story. And the insight into photography and the use of it as almost a character itself in the book, really added to the story for me. "That's why when you go to take a photograph the first thing you learn isn't how the camera acts. It's accepting that the picture you end up with will never be the picture you were trying to take. Right off you have to be okay with that or don't bother. Like say you were taking a picture of a rose in bloom and just when you press the shutter, a bee flies into the picture. What's your picture of then?" My favorite quote from "Juniper". Although the story was somewhat predictable, the other elements above made this a special book for me. less

It started off interesting, but I think in the end it just fit in too well and predictable.

Very sweet story but I was a little unhappy with how quickly it ended...
