review 1: The book Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder was not really close to a good book. Even though, it was not really a good book its a funny one. When a new kid named Billy moves into a new neighborhood in Norway he meets his neighbor a wacky scientist. The book's plot is a not so descriptive, but again its a funny one. The weakest part of the book is the details. It is the weakest because it doesn't really describe Billy and his life really good. The writing has some funny moments but it is still not descriptive. The strongest part of the book is probably the plot. I say this because it has some action and funny parts. When Billy and his new friend that's a girl find out that Dr. Proctor makes a fart powder that actually makes you fly they try to sell it. When bad guys steal it can... more they get it back and stop them from doing something dangerous or will they fail?
review 2: I was never a fan of bathroom humor, and this one felt like 250 pages too much bathroom humor for me. I'm not sure how well this book worked as a point of discussion for my EL410 class: some days we could talk until our time ran out, and some days I found myself trying to force a dialogue when it would rather trail off out the window. Part of the problem is that the translation is so awkward. The combination of bathroom humor and semi-distant, semi-omnipotent narration just wasn't gelling for me. less
