review 1: I was sent “I Am Wolf” for review. I really enjoyed that this was from a male perspective but it also gave me perspectives of other characters as well. The Native American legend Joann created was very enjoyable. In the beginning I judged it as another werewolf YA love story but the further I read the darker this story became and it kept me reading. Although the story is mainly about Jonah and Alaynee, I enjoyed Ollie and Dakota’s romance even more. It was quiet but I could feel the chemistry between them. Jonah is a great character. He’s headstrong and has a good heart. He goes through a lot and his doubts and fears made him likable. I felt Alaynee was just too perfect and even though she’s a sweet girl I didn’t really care for her. One thing I did like about ... moreAlaynee and Jonah was that they were ‘it’ for each other. There wasn’t a typical overly-done teenage love triangle in the story. All the teens were portrayed very maturely as well which made the story more enjoyable. Ralph’s character adds a dark twist to the story that I wasn’t expecting. Joann’s writing is very visual and some of the sequences were ick inducing. As demented as Ralph becomes it kept me reading. Beyond all the gore is Cara’s beautifully, imaginative, innocent storyline that connects the characters together. There are a lot of elements to this story and Joann adds her own style of philosophies to the mix which got me thinking. The beginning confused me. I was reading the dedication and it blended with the start of the story so I had to reread it to figure out what was going on. There were also a few times Joann’s poeticism was lost on me. I’m also confused why the series is titled ‘The Children of Nox’ instead of Tibolt. I give “I Am Wolf” 4/5 stars. It started off slow but evolved into an attention stealing story. My big hope is that the next book doesn’t contain a love triangle to sour my enjoyment.
review 2: Angel, hero, monster, devil--we all become what we really are. I Am Wolf --The journey of a boy about to become a man who inherits his ancestor's gift and must learn the right way to use it. He falls in love with Alaynee and begins to feel like he is normal again. When their world is shattered by the kidnapping of Alaynee's little brother, Jonah breaks the cardinal rule of his gift and bites the kidnapper, creating a creature called the unnatural. This sends him and all his friends on an adventure across the states to a place in Tennessee. There they find not only must they stop the unnatural creature, but they must save Cara--the girl the creature is after. Jonah must ask himself the most important question of all, would you sacrifice yourself to save another?I wasn’t 100% sure what I would think of this book downloading it, but I’ve actually saved it to my phone to read in future days. I was unable to put this mythical tale, set in modern time, down. I stayed up all hours and fell in love with the way the ‘pack’ was able to communicate. I really cannot wait until I’m able to read through the amazing sequel, The Kiss to find out what happens to Cara and Jonah, and just how deep the love is between Jonah and his soulmate, Alaynee. All in all this is a riveting read, absolutely engrossing. I adored this book and will continue to support the author in ALL her works. I Am Wolf is an amazing book which reminds me a lot of works by Gena Showalter and other such amazing authors. less
