review 1: After a slow start, The Agincourt Bride held me gripped until the very last page. As far as historical fiction goes, I put the emphasis on the word "fiction". I don't care about the historical inaccuracies as long as the characters are well written and the narrative fluent. The Agincourt Bride delivered on both accounts. It's a fascinating look behind the glittering facade of court life from a servant's point of view, full of complex politics, shifting allegiances, conspiracies and hidden agendas. A thoroughly enjoyable read and will most certainly follow this up by reading The Tudor Bride.
review 2: 'The Agincourt Bride' charts the early life of Catherine of Valois, future wife of Henry V and Owen Tudor, as told by Guillaumette, Catherine's wet nurse/Mistress
... moreof the Robes/close confidante. Guillaumette, or 'Mette' as she is mostly known, is a strong character and the first part of the novel is particularly detailed and interesting as regards the daily life of a servant in a royal household. But as it went on, and Catherine becomes a grown up, I would've liked more of her perspective on events. Having said that, I still enjoyed the novel and felt like I knew more about the time period at the end of it than I did when I began. Will definitely read the sequel. less
