review 1: I love dystopian literature and Joel does a great job with Meritropolis. It is an easy story to read in one evening - which is good because once you start reading it, you will not be able to put it down. Clearly there will be a book two and I am anxiously waiting for it. If you like The Hunger Games Series, The Divergent Series etc... you will definitely love this book and any followup books also. It is so incredibly easy to get caught up in this story and forget your reality.I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
review 2: The hottest place in Hell is reserved for those who remain neutral in times of great moral conflict. - Martin Luther King, Jr.MERITROPOLIS is an excellent dystopian tale (great relevant title BTW). I didn't consider this
... moreto be a YA novel - not because of inappropriate content but just because not every book with young people in it is necessarily YA. I think this is a very readable novel of a future world that is excellent for all age groups.Ohman is a Christian author so no rough language, no sex scenes and the battle scenes aren't overly graphic.People of all ages are given a merit score to decide what they can give back to society. Stellar athleticism and intelligence are two pluses to your score whereas disabilities, low athleticism and intelligence are minuses to your score. If your score is low enough, you are "zeroed" - put outside the gates of the city with wild mutated animals. Oh, speaking of mutated animals, I want to try a feast of gobsters (goose-lobster combo). The characters, especially Charley, the protagonist of the book, are pretty well fleshed out. I was able to visualize the characters and the monsters pretty easily. As an aid, there are illustrations of some of the mutated creatures at the beginning of each chapter. The story ended at a place where a sequel could naturally start. I hope the author does plan on continuing this tale.NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. less

I am so tired of this dystopian, faux-logical faux-communist set-up. I swear to god.
