review 1: This book was a quick, easy read, and it was full of important ideas that society would do good to consider. The book’s premise was that children are one of humanity’s most valuable assets, yet they are often ignored, overlooked, undervalued, and forced to grow up too fast. It offered considerations about why some children misbehave, about the affect of excessive technology on children, and about how as parents and teachers we should live out what we teach — in addition to many other things.I didn’t agree one hundred percent with every single aspect of the book, but I wholeheartedly recommend this book for parents and teachers, especially if the children in your life are young. The younger they are, the more time there is to make important changes that might positi... morevely impact them for the rest of their lives.
review 2: In graduate school I did a PP presentation on what a child lives/endures in 3rd world countries. Grant you in certain instances it is not much better in other countries & even the good ole USA. Never has been & never will be!Chapter 2 playtime, don’t deprive a kid of that. Education yes once politicians were in a classroom setting. Other countries breed competition. Chapter 4 Leave the cell phones, IPads, personal computers at the teacher’s desk. Better yet leave them in your locker. Chapter 7 yes kids need to be disciplined & know right/wrong. Chapter 8 mental/medical, behavioral issues. That’s why schools have Social Worker, well OK maybe Psychologists. My biological father was in an Army unit that liberated some of the WWII concentration camps. He defiantly suffered from shell shock (PTSD). My biological mother whom he met on R & R in London went back to her mother country when I was 4. Then along came my step-mother & an adopted sister, we endured his brutal wrath of my biological father for many years. They really did not do a whole lot for kids back in those days. Finally, at my request we went to court but they just put me/sister into state custody (foster care). Parental rights you know. Brings back long gone memories that will never go away, but since he is now deceased it will never ever happen again (closer). I would recommend this book to every Social Worker or Counselor in the whole wide world. A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written informative fact filled book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make great movie, PP presentation or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars. Thank you for the free book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn) less
