review 1: I thought this was a great book, it had plenty of unexpected twists to keep you thinking. the story takes place in a city in modern times. the main character is a regular guy named Christopher who gets a job at the morgue for the summer. the conflict arises when he discovers what appears to be a cover up. he decides to investigate and gets involved in something that involves the mayor, the sheriff, the coroner, the mayor's daughter, and chris' best friend. the climax comes when chris has to shoot the mayor to keep him from killing the coroner, who is refusing to help him cover up another murder. the falling actions finds chris trying to go back to living a normal life again.
review 2: The book was a classic mystery, something you don't find enough of nowadays.
... moreThe story moves at a fast pace so none of the scenes feel boring or unneccesary. I definitely liked the twists and turns that brought you to the climax. At first, I thought Christopher was an unreliable narrator--mostly due to the fact that he tended to let his imagination run away with him-but it turns out he was on the right path all along. The book surprised me when it was revealed who did the murder, which is a good thing. I like surprises. The story could've used some more character development though, especially on Christopher's love interest. The whole thing between them was a little confusing and didn't get much better toward the end. However, I did like the brotherly relationship between Chris and his little brother. All in all, it's an awesome read, a definite reccommendation for the summer, and it's fun trying to solve the mystery along with Chris. less
