review 1: I really love this one! Simple and to the point, John Coy gives us the story of the invention of basketball. A desperate gym teacher had to keep his class of rowdies under control. The two previous gym teachers had quit. So, thinking back to his childhood, he tweaked a game that he used to play. When he introduced it to the class, they loved it. And better yet, no one got hurt! What happens when ladies ask to play too? Great read-aloud for a class.
review 2: It's amazing that more sports aren't invented every day, given the number of rowdy gym classes there must be out there. Here's the story of one of those classes and a teacher who was looking for a way to contain injuries and the wild young men running around his gym. Although this story does not delve deepl... morey into the creation of the sport we know as basketball, it makes for a clever introduction for young readers, who may then want to read more about it. The illustrations are great and put you right into the midst of those rowdy students! less
