review 1: Overall I enjoyed this book quite a bit, but can't go higher than 3 stars. The years that have been spent on making Yucca Mountain a nuclear waste site are a joke. The best part of the book for me was the story of how to store the waste safely for 10,000 years when it will not be dangerous for humanity. How to mark the site, in what language or with what symbol shows how our government can get immersed in nonsense! All of the book was quite informative and well written. Las Vegas appears to be a messy, hurting city. The storage of nuclear waste downright scary. The part of the story about the one young man's undoing was written very well, but all of these threads couldn't weave together for me or I would have rated it higher.
review 2: About A Mountain was a li
... morettle unfocused, hard to read, and jumped around at times, but was overall a good book. It did what it set out to do, and that was to bring awareness to the plight of the Yucca Mountain and make various arguments about why the people in charge of the nuclear waste disposal were doing it wrong. While it was written as an attempted art form, D'Agata could've aimed a little more at making the writing more accessible. less
