review 1: Loved this gem:... "The teen years are not an end game, a final answer about character development, or a report card on your acumen as a parent. No, adolescence is a broad developmental step in the process of life, a critical period during which, through trial and error (often lots of error), character is established and developed. And each experience and misstep provides an opportunity for you to practice availability, to foster resilience, and deepen your relationship. Trust me, smooth waters rarely present such grand opportunity..."
review 2: I borrowed this book from the library, but I will absolutely be buying it. A BRILLIANT, brilliant book on parenting your teen, and really, on how to treat anyone you love. I am taking the lessons from this book to hear
... moret, and plan on keeping it on my bedside table for constant reference as I parent my 6 sons through their teenage years. I especially love how Duffy emphasizes that the teenage years are part of your child's development into adulthood that should be cherished, just as you looked on with awe as your baby developed into toddlerhood. Also, he puts into perspective how rebellion and making mistakes is an essential part of the individuation process...they don't do it to totally tick off their parents (although sometimes it seems like it). An enjoyable and essential book, not preachy, full of great stories and quotes....if you are or will be the parent of a teen - READ IT!!! less
