review 1: It took me a while to finish this book because I had a lot of other things to do.However, I've sometimes read other books almost through the night just before an important test. I guess the main reason it took me so long to finish this book is because it wasn't that captivating or thrilling to begin with.It is not a full story with a good plot. There are major gaps that are not filled like land descriptions and situation, character background,... Moreover, throughout the story I did not like the characters very much. Maybe it could have been better if the background of at least the main characters was improved and the story a bit more developed. It felt as if the book was written by a child.It is not a book I recommend and I will not read the se... morequel.
review 2: Overall I did enjoy this story as well as the characters. Why then did I rate it a three? Some may find fast paced storytelling very appealing in fantasy adventure books but it often left too much assumed or left you with a wanting for the explanation. Diving into a world of complex magic and numerous Gods which deliver visions and advice so often that people are no longer surprised by divine intervention dulls the magical story of Talis's grand, and slightly rushed, adventure. Character development saves the day with a lovable relationship between Talis and Mara as well as uneasy partnership with Rikar and his dark intentions. Nikulo is along for the ride as well and I look forward to the second book hoping that the first novel was a warm up for the author and now he is ready to impress his customers with a stronger and more confident sequel. less
