review 1: John Grogan was born into a VERY Catholic family. As he grew up, he eventually drifted away from the Catholic church, much to the chagrin of his parents. Being a religious person myself, I had a hard time identifying with Grogan, and found myself feeling very sympathetic toward his parents, and wondering how I would handle a "wayward child." Some of his stories were funny, but a lot of them left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I guess the kid who sneaks cigarettes and chugs the leftover sacramental wine has never sat well with me.
review 2: What a beautiful book. I laughed and I cried.. Tears rolling down my cheeks on the train. I stayed up late into the night as I couldn't put the book down! Beautifully written portraying the life and relationship between
... more children and parents, from the mischief of growing up to the adult lessons we learn and having our own children. Highly personal story of john and his parents, thank you for sharing. What a wonderful story teller. less
