review 1: This was probably one of the best fiction books I've ever read. So relevant to life, and makes you think of how lives so away from a continent away in Africa are affected by things we don't seem to know much about. It also makes you think about what you think of fate, and helps you put things into context. I've never met anyone like Thomas in my life who can rationally explain coincidences with numbers and statistics, and I've been brought up in a country where 'kismet' is how your life is defined. I really enjoyed meeting Thomas in this book, and know that what I've read about him will strengthen my faith in numbers and science, rather than feeling powerless against some big force of nature.
review 2: Two days ago I stumbled across this book. Just finished it ... moreand I have to say I absolutely LOVED it. Rather whimsical yet nicely told. Reminds me of Night Circus in that you are rooting for the main characters and slightly magical (but not as "fantasmagorical" as NC). Slightly obvious ending but doesn't detract from it. Intriguing yet grounded in reality. Brought a tear to my eye. Couldn't put it down (not a thriller but I so wanted to know what was going to happen next)... 4.5*. A good read! less
