Moving Target: Servando Carrasco

After agreeing to sell last season’s top defender Jelle van Damme to Antwerp, LA Galaxy moved to replace the Belgian by trading in Servando Carrasco from Orlando City for an undisclosed fee, as part of the MLS re-entry draft that took place recently.

The 29-year-old will sign a deal with the Galaxy this week, depending on League approval. The Southern California native was one of only three players selected in Stage 2 with Gonzalo Veron being drafted by DC United and Callum Mallace selected by LAFC.

THE HISTORY

Carrasco’s footballing journey began at the San Diego Soccer Club in his home state of California before he moved onto play College Soccer for California Golden Bears.

He then joined Seattle Sounders in January 2011, in which he would spend two seasons with the Sounders, making 40 appearances, scoring one goal.

In September 2013, Carrasco was traded to Houston Dynamo, spending one season with the Dynamo, before moving onto Sporting Kansas City for 2015. Making 19 appearances and 9 appearances for both franchises.

It was with Orlando City SC who debuted in MLS in 2015, where Carrasco’s career seems to have gotten back on track. Servando Carrasco has made the most appearances in his storied career for The Lions.

Carrasco has made 62 appearances scoring once, for the Purple Pride. Carrasco now replaces Jelle van Damme for the Galaxy.

THE PROSPECTS

Servando Carrasco is now “heading home”, back to where he started his career, back to California. The 29 year old will now join an LA Galaxy side who are looking to have a much improved season, than the one just gone.

LA Galaxy had a less than stellar season last time out. Servando Carrasco could be brought in to help sure up the backline of LA Galaxy.

The Galaxy themselves will be hoping that Servando Carrasco can come in and help out by bedding in quickly to Sigi Schmid’s system and style of play.

Servando Carrasco started last season at $6.5 in MLS Fantasy, but finished the campaign in a lacklustre Orlando City SC, on $5.9. Improvements all round will be needed from both player and franchise, especially with another team… the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) now making their debut in MLS this season.
