review 1: I really liked this book - it really gave a flavor of John's personality throughout his life. Some of it (the jokey, clever side) was familiar. What wasn't as familiar was the John who wrote letters to his family in the UK. I liked that guy, dammit. And it was heartbreaking to near 1980 and see John write things like hoping his life would begin at 40. My only criticism is that Hunter Davies left some question marks where he couldn't make out what John wrote, but in at least 2 of the places, it was perfectly obvious what was written. Maybe it's just that I have bad hand-writing too.Beatles/John Lennon fans should definitely check this book out.
review 2: I have been a Lennon fan since the early days during the British Invasion. Reading this collection of lette
... morers, postcards and lists let me share a little bit more of his life. The context provided by Hunter Davies was always interesting and helped clarify what I was about to read. Lennon's writing and drawing style is always unique and reminds me of the sadness of losing this important musical and political figure far too early. less

This is a fascinating glimpse into the troubled, complex, and very funny mind of a mad genius.
