review 1: This was a really great read in both terms of content and communication. Frame is a great writer. His chapters were short and to the point, but he communicated what he wanted and moved on and he makes sure you understand the point and how it relates to his whole system by constantly referencing his own work within the book and within his Lordship series.One of his interesting arguments is that when we appeal to Scripture as our ultimate authority based on it's own claims, that will necessitate a circular argument because it must. Anytime one appeals to a highest authority, it must cite that authority for why it is the highest (i.e., the unbeliever with regard to reason or empirical evidence).
review 2: John Frame finished his Theology of Lordship series with pe... morerhaps the best of the four books. Although Doctrine of the Word of God did not have the same paradigm shifting impact on my theology and philosophy that Doctrine of the Knowledge of God did, DWG is written with the same clear thinking and commitment to the authority of Scripture that characterized the other volumes and is more concise. I really have nothing negative to say about the book at all. His call to see engagement with God in the Words of Scripture was especially helpful and challenging, as was his classification of Scripture as divine words. His work on inerrancy and the Canon was top-drawer and will definitely make its way into my theology and hermeneutics classes (as so much Frame material so often does). less
