review 1: I had placed this book on my to read list and then joined an on-line discussion group. I couldn't put the book down. The writing is beautifully spare in a way that few authors achieve. With just a few words Jon Harrison can convey a scene or emotion that resonates with everyone. Many of the books I read are certainly escapist fare--exciting, well-written, interesting, but one can rarely relate to the unique characters created by wonderful writer's minds. The characters in this book are all too real, and any of us could imagine these events and crises unfolding in our lives or the lives of people we know. That Harrison helps us find beauty in the everyday along with sharing in anguish makes him that writer whose work will surely be on the list of most memorable books or fav... moreorite books. I know that I will never forget and look forward to his next work.
review 2: Loved this book. From the start, you are drawn in by a tragedy. The author keeps your interest with dynamic characters and a story line that has a lot going on, while adding numerous flashbacks so the reader has the entire backstory. There are a few unexpected twists and turns that kept me intrigued enough to finish the book two days after I started it! Well written and enjoyed the depth of the characters. less
