review 1: Rampant self-indulgent whimsy. Dude's subjective geeking-out over an album he loves. This is NOT the behind-the-scenes look that we all wished for. Just some moderately successful writer masturbating to a brilliant art-rock album and trying to get us all to watch him. Eewwww, gross.I read half of this and had to stop because it was pissing me off. It could have been interesting. He CAN write, I will admit that much, it is just that his ego took this in the wrong (for me) direction.I would MUCH rather have some insight into the making of this seminal pop album.
review 2: This is probably the 2nd or 3rd worst book in this entire series. It had pretty much little or nothing to do with any new information, or even pertinent information, regarding Talking Heads. In
... morestead, Lethem seems excited by his own vocabulary and his ability to weave in and out of that lexicon while still leaving asides in it so as to include that "personal" touch. Only time will tell if I end up rating this as the worst one of the entire series. Hate the world. less

Couldn't finish this. I like Letham's essays but this tries way too hard. Ruining the album.

***½Reading while listening to the album obsessively is the way to go here.

I want to give it 3 1/2 stars but I'll round up.
