review 1: A very interesting book on the status of science viz life extension, but more importantly and more interestingly, a discussion of the psychology of the scientists who seem to have dismissed immortality. Some say immortality is inevitable, others say research on immortality is a waste of time and impossible. Then, a very interesting conclusion about the value of immortality. What if the next Adolph Hitler was immortal? Would humans get bored with eternity? Would human progress halt without death to spur us on?
review 2: Too many irrelevant tidbits. I was expecting a discussion on the scientific research, but instead I got remarks after remarks of his interactions with Aubrey and others. I get that it adds color and context and texture, but it was executed po
... moreorly. Bill Bryson did a great job incorporating scientists back stories and fun facts in "A Short History of Nearly Everything". Walter Issacson did an equally wonderful job retelling stories of his interactions with Jobs in the Jobs biography. Maybe there are some gems in the haystack. I'm half way into the book, but so far, it's been mostly hay, with an occasional sparkle here and there. less
