review 1: Our Song is a beautifully written story by Jordanna Fraiberg. Olive Bell had the perfect life. A perfect family, perfect grades, a seemingly perfect boyfriend, and a perfect home. All this changes when Olive gets in a fatal car accident leaving her heart broken, depressed, and lost. The doctors and paramedics say that it was a miracle that Olive survived. After the accident, Olive remembers hearing a mysterious, beautiful song sometime during the accident but she cannot remember who sang it, or where it came from. Her parents become increasingly worried about her as she won't leave the house except for school. Despite her resistance, Olive's parents enroll her in a "Near Death Experience" group therapy class. The first day that Olive goes to the therapy session, she meets N... moreick. Nick is from Liverpool and moved to America with a dark past and a dark secret. The two immediately bond and form a tight friendship. With all of the time that Nick and Olive spend together, Olive starts to fall for Nick and begins to pick up the pieces of her life and starts to put them together again. Meanwhile Nick, is very troubled and lives with loads of guilt and regret everyday unbeknownst to Olive or anybody else. It isn't until he meets Olive and begins to fall for her, that he starts to come out of his shell and accept his past. Throughout the story, we see two troubled teens with troubled pasts, come together and experience life together after great trauma. We see Nick and Olive accept what happened to them, understand what happened and try to move forward, and most importantly, we see them forgive themselves and understand that they can't change the past. In the end, Olive realizes that the mystery song that she heard the night of the accident wasn't some random song lyrics, but that it was a song that Nick had sang to her. It's a mystery how Olive had heard Nick sing the song to her, but Olive believes that it was Nick's spirit calling to her and that they were destined to meet. Through all of the grief, regret, and loss, together, Nick and Olive stand by each other and accept the truth about each of their tragedies. And by doing so, Nick and Olive uncover the meaning behind the song and the magnificent power of what it feels like to love someone and be loved back with no judgement of the past.
review 2: Olive Bell is recovering from an accident that almost took her life. She wrecked her boyfriend's car and he no longer wants anything to do with her. As she is recovering from the trauma of the accident and heartbreak, she needs to find a way to put her life together again. She starts experiencing some strange after effects, they might be a result of the fact that she was brought back from death following the accident. To complicate things, she has met a cute new boy in the Near-Death support group. less
