review 1: This book got off to a rough start for me, as I am not a fan of writing in the first person present tense. I also dislike lackluster descriptions of characters, even minor ones, such as referring to a man simply as "big." However I love dragons, so with this books well designed cover and the promise of sentient dragons picking up this book was a no brainer. After working past the writing style and really immersing myself in the story I began to like it more and more, particularly the dragons. At the end I felt like it was finally getting to the good part, as previous exciting scenes seemed to be abridged. Parts of this book made me feel like it was written specifically with the intent of one day becoming a movie, however after Eragon I would rather see this stay on th... moree page as opposed to take to the screen. I will, nonetheless, eagerly await the sequel.
review 2: After a late night stunt involving staging a kiss with a dormant dragon, and a lot of action, Melissa is let in on the secret that dragons exist, and that she is one of the unique who can communicate with them. OK, interesting enough, if a bit cliched. I totally lost interest when she's captured by some governmental power seeking to do . . . something, I was never sure, but probably evil in nature. I think the idea was that she was supposed to be on some kind of reality show? Don't know, and after 25 pages or so of sheer confusion, I didn't care. less

So dragons are modern Native Americans? That's what I'm getting.
