review 1: Joumana Haddad promises a clarification of the Western image of Arab women but instead ends up with 150 pages of pretentious, obnoxiously self-congratulatory criticism of the Arab world. I cannot decide what bothered me the most about this book (and made it more difficult to get through); how utterly self-involved she is or the extent to which she condescends everyone and everything about which she writes.
review 2: When I read this for the first time I was fascinated. I thought this was tough woman, a woman to admire. Then, taking time to reflect on it, I changed my mind a bit.
