review 1: A well written extremely engaging story. Olivia has lost her 5 year old daughter to cancer and faces eviction from her apartment and the life Of luxury after living as a "kept" woman for 10 years. Olivia finds friendship in the wife of her lover and the female police officer who is investigating a murder that Olivia is the prime suspect in. But the most unsettling fact of this book is that Olivia does not believe in God in spite of the many people who are believers that cross her path.
review 2: "Rain Dance" was the first Joy DeKok book I read and I was an immediate fan. The story was well told and powerful. I was anxious to read this new release, "Between the Lies."Confession up front: my favorite genre of books is Christian contemporary fiction - chick-lit
... more all the way; but the complex story told in this book sucked me in after the first couple of chapters. The first night I started reading "Between the Lies", I had difficulty falling asleep - Olivia's story disturbed me. Day two of reading, Olivia's story was intriguing and there were so many facets to her personality. Not a character I would typically be drawn to, I became Olivia's cheerleader as her story unfolded. Day three of reading, I want to know the people on this journey with Olivia - the masks begin to fall, the lies are revealed and danger is ever present. As I read, I look for clues to solve the mystery and try to identify the murderer. I then find myself intentionally putting aside other responsibilities in order to finish this book - and I understand that such a compelling and, indeed, a riveting, story has captured me.I highly recommend this book - even to the reader who prefers romance and a light-hearted story. Joy DeKok tells the story in a way that you feel as if you know the characters. Her ability to intertwine creativity and art into the storyline gave additional depth to the story. As anxious as I was to finish this book, I was disappointed that it was over. I wanted more. less

Not terribly well-written but a decent read for a freebie.
