A Renaissance Faire Mystery
review 1: I'm a huge fan of cozy mysteries, so I'm pretty used to cheesy plots, outlandish characters, and heroines that are too nosy for their own good. While I could get on board with the "quirky" (read: insane) Ren Faire employees, I simply could not bear the lead character, Jessie. For someone who practically raised her brother and is currently pursuing a PhD, she has the emotional maturity and stability of a 13-year-old. Some of the side characters were mildly interesting, but I recommend skipping this series.
review 2: I almost gave up on this book around twenty pages in but I was determined to read it since I've had it sitting in my bookcase for so long. The book itself was awkward. I think that this may be because it was laying the foundation for the rest of the
... moreseries the same way that the first episode of a new series sets up the show for its viewers. However, I do not know if this is the case since I will not be reading any other books from this series. Jessie was very unlikable. This is very unfortunate as she is the lead character. I found the secondary characters to be far more interesting and likable. I would consider continuing this series if it was written from a different character's point of view. less
