review 1: *DNF* The premise of this story drew me in so I really did want to like it. While the concept unraveled in a way well-balanced with dialogue, narrative, and decent pacing, I still struggled with a few aspects of the story. Many of the situations as well as the dialogue felt contrived, making the story less believable. I also could not connect with the main character. His actions didn't seem organic or logical and I found myself wishing he were more relatable. I wanted to root for him. The tone of the story is on the dark side, which I wouldn't normally mind, though in this story some of it didn't seem to have a purpose, or if it did, it wasn't to make me like the main character more. I think this story will work for some people, and the plot is definitely interesting, but ... moreit just wasn't for me.
review 2: *spoiler alert* I liked this book a lot. The mystery of who was sending the emails to Mia didn't draw me in nearly as much as the part about what "Darkness" is did (although Darkness is kind of a stupid name for that character in my opinion). I can't wait for the next book in the series so I can find out why Parker is hallucinating. That's the main reason I kept reading was to find that out and now I have to wait a couple months to find out. I also was interested in why Mia's dreams were different. I could do without the romance between Addie and Parker--that seemed more like a pointless embellishment to the story than anything else. And the twist at the end was conpletely unexpected. One thing that bothered me was that I don't think that Jeff really needed any justification other than being a psycho because I didn't really care why he did anything. I thought it made sense though (after the fact) since he and Parker were supposedly so close. The little bit of closure about the blind skull guy was the perfect amount to make me feel satisfied, but still make me want to read the next book. This review is very scattered, I'm sorry, that's just how I think. less
