review 1: Warning this book contains elements of extreme BDSM type play that while consensual is quite violent and may be disturbing to some people. When life is endless and as you age you become more powerful instead of less what is to keep you from becoming a completely corrupt and unfeeling husk of a life form? The vampire race has started down this evil path and Malachi Denali was created to lead the vampires back from the brink and teach them how to co-exist harmoniously with the Creator’s other children. But how does someone who must be the very embodiment of strength, power and cunning show a weakness such as love and expect to keep his position? I felt so sorry for the two main characters in this book. They both have responsibilities and have come to rely completely o... moren the other in order to accomplish as much as they have, and now that things are starting to come to fruition they must trust their partner completely or lose them forever. When you read the blurb and start the book it seems like the makings of a very interesting book except just as things are starting to get interesting a whole different set of characters are introduced that seem to have no bearing on the main plot line. When I realized this book was co-written it made more sense. It seems the authors took two story ideas and mashed them into one book with a tenuous connection to each other and just hope it would work out. For me it did not. Every time the storylines would switch I would get frustrated, I just wanted one of them to accomplish something but alas just more secrets and hidden feelings. Then just when it seems the characters are going to have to face their feelings the book ends with To Be Continued. I was so very frustrated and if the second book was not already out I may have refused to read anymore. I am usually okay with HFN endings or even just seeming lull in action but nothing was solved in this book. There are no real questions answered and I was left with feelings of extreme frustration and almost betrayal that after such a long book nothing was accomplished. I will read the second book in hopes of redemption for this series since my curiosity is peaked as to outcome of the cliffhanger but I am hoping for at least some resolution at the end of it.
review 2: Malachi Denali, the Vampire King was created by Laziel, an angel whose life and light was tied to his creation. Malachi aka Lachi has very dark proclivities and Laziel, his teacher, his protector, his lover will do anything he can to keep Lachi's demons at bay but will it be enough?I've read plenty of erotica and BDSM stories and I think this is the first time where servitude and submission were extremely strong and I wanted more and I was probably halfway through the book when I was cursing J.T. Cheyenne and V.L Moon for the curveball they through in the mix. It's not very often I'm yelling at my laptop and my furbabies are looking at me like I've gone insane. But there was really no need to panic if I had just kept reading a bit further. Awesome ladies.. just awesome...Crimson Reign the first book of what I hope many more of The Crimson Nights Saga has alot going on. It has sex, it has love and betrayal just to name a few. This was a great erotic paranormal story in my opinion but if you're looking for a HEA (Happily Ever After) You're not going to find one and usually I hate books that end in cliff hangers because you never know how long you have to wait till the next one. But this time..... I can't wait for the next story in The Crimson Nights Saga. less
