review 1: I thought I knew what to expect when I borrowed this book. It was such a strange thing for me to be interested in but somehow it touched my lizard brain and ignited the hidden explorer in me. I like facts when they are interesting and to be honest that's what I thought this book was. But instead I read about these islands not in a factual way but a whimsical one. Each chapter is a story in that Islands history. Explorers , pirates, treasure hunters and scientists collating knowledge.Stories of wars, with each other and wars with nature that can never be won.The chapters are short and leave you wanting more. The illustrations are excellent. This little book was something I wouldn't normally read except perhaps for research but as for reading fun I enjoyed it immensely.Someti... moremes the stories are of despair, pieces of history that have eluded us, things we we know in our subconscious and things we remember from our childhoods.Easter Island , Pitcairn Island are a few of the ones we remember. The others are a bonus. It did not take long to read this. Just right as an I between book. No man is an island, but these islands know no man. There is only one winner, nature.Good stuff
