review 1: This is such a clever book. Julia Donaldson has thought of all the dangers of being a stick and puts poor stick man into all of those predicaments. The first time I searched for this book I listened to a guy read it on You Tube and he gave Stick Man a french accent. "I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man, I'm Stick Man, that's me!" So now every time I read it to my kids, this really bad French accent tries to creep out. It's a fun one to read for so many reasons, and but mostly because it's in rhyme!
review 2: Stick man by Julia Donaldson.Like many of the picture books written by Donaldson this book also uses rhyme and repetition to tell us the story of Stick man. One day while out for a jog, Stickman is picked up and used by a dog, a young girl, a swan, a dad and final
... morely a young boy. Stick man is suddenly lonely and lost and must try to get home to his family tree. As he becomes weary and drifts in to sleep, he is again picked up again, but this time by a dad searching for kindling for the fire. As he lies in the grate he hears a voice coming from above. Someone is stuck in the chimney, but who could it be? Stick man comes to the rescue and is shocked to find it is Santa Clause. He helps Santa to deliver his gifts to all the girls and boys, and as a thank you for all his help, Santa returns Stick man back home to the family tree. This book I believe is suitable for EYFS or KS1 and could be used to encourage speaking and listening. It could be used to introduce the concept of rhyme and repetition with which the children could join in. It would also be suitable in a class library allowing children to explore at their leisure. Wonderful illustrations are once again provided by Axel Scheffler and I believe children would find these particularly enjoyable. less
