review 1: In reading other reviews, it seems that most everyone loves this book. Don't mind my abandoned rating of 1, you might like it like the others. Me? I just didn't get it. I lost track of the main characters, and for the longest time, I couldn't figure out if it was a flashback to an earlier time or not. I also found the elaborate detailing of the lesbian relationships quite off putting, and I didn't see why that was even part of the story.I jumped ship, so to speak, at the 200 page mark (out of roughly 400), so I tried-I really did.
review 2: This novel is a good example of how the Goodreads rating-system can fall short. Die Mittagsfrau (English title: The Blindness of the Heart) is an excellent work of literature, but I cannot in good conscience recommend i
... moret to anyone because it is BLEAK and depressing and not in a cathartic way. When I first started reading, the novel seemed especially dark and humorless and I was reminded of why I don't read more contemporary German literature just for funsies. Eventually I got caught up in the story and the prose, but I still found myself getting angry at the protagonist for her passivity and endless victimization, an effect the author probably intended. Brutal. less

Am dat doar 4 stelute din cinci pentru ca este foarte trista. in rest, m-a acaparat cu totul.

My translation is entitled The Blind Side of the Heart. Pretty powerful so far.
