review 1: Yes it was O.K. and that was about it. Written in three different time periods with a multitude of characters this is a solid 497 pages of grind. A decent enough story that just takes a while going anywhere. And some of the evil vile crap spilled out on these pages, well damn, even I have to say this was a tough cookie to chew on. So if you have a lot of time on your hands, a strong stomach for characters that are real assholes and nothing better to do, I say this may be the book for you. Otherwise perhaps something else may tickle your fancy, and maybe it will be best to leave this one sit for some other time. It is all up to you as a reader.
review 2: The book is an interesting view of the world of archeologists and the sort of machinations that can be encoun
... moretered in their dry activities.A little less embroidery and superfluity would have improved the fluency of the first half of the book which was more scene setting than story. The second half of the book showed how Julia Navarro can develop a story and increase the tension and made up for the rather pedestrian start. less
