Rev. Clare Fergusson & Russ Van Alstyne Mysteries
review 1: Intense honeymoon! The Rev. Claire Fergusson and Police Chief Russ Van Alstyne go on their honeymoon to a remote cabin in the Adirondacks. Just before they leave they find out that both of their jobs may be in jeopardy. Additionally they are also trying to deal with Claire's pregnancy. This is not your usual honeymoon. It is further complicated by the search for a missing child, an intense ice storm, an injured trooper, and drug dealers out to protect their business against all comers, including a police chief and his pregnant wife. Throughout this process Claire and Russ reveal their deep love for each other, and the child they have created. I haven't heard of another book in this series yet but I hope the author is hard at work. There are a lot of details about this fami... morely, and their extended family back at Millers Kill, that were left hanging at the end, but Ms. Spencer-Fleming's books are always worth the wait.
review 2: What a slog to get through the days and hours with the priestly pregnant heroine and her heroic police husband as they propped one another up through a contrived plot based on a kidnapped little girl with a liver transplant who just happens to turn up near them at the lake where they are having their "honeymoon". Side plot of good young cop's relationship with former porno cop woman who has problems with her former horrid husband overlaps with main story and ended the book on a note that forces yet another of these florid crinkly books. Obviously written for readers with much more of a liking of soapy opera mystery stories than I have. less

4 1/2 to 5. A great series, and an amazing "cliffhanger" at the end.
