review 1: The whole book was ruined for me by Carlos' dominance - 50 Shades has totally ruined that for me and the way in which authors of long-running series have all decided to jump on the bandwagon. I am bored, bored, bored of it and frankly I dislike it anyway. So that permeated everything.Abby is the younger daughter of the US President, she is in Kuala Lumpur at a horticultural seminar. The President has received credible intelligence that one of his daughters may be kidnapped by terrorists and has sent several of the Black Knights to supplement the secret service. Carlos and Abby knew each other at college when Carlos' twin sister was brutally murdered in a coffee shop explosion. Carlos has feelings of inferiority about his poor family and his immigrant status - how could a g... moreirl like Abby ever be interested in a mutt like him? Abby blames herself for Rosa's death (for a stupid reason) and doesn't think Carlos would ever forgive her if he knew the truth about Rosa's death. The President is clearly matchmaking. It turns out that Abby is the target of the terrorists and she is abducted one night, Carlos tracks her down using the fake diamond earrings he insisted she wore (although they were taken by one of the terrorists) and rescues her. They are then chased through the Malaysian jungle by the remains of the terrorist cell.I felt that there was a lack of story - too much angst from Abby and Carlos and not enough action. Summarising the plot it seems a bit thin. Also, I have visited KL several times and I felt a bit miffed at the way it was portrayed - it has some extraordinarily sophisticated (and expensive) hotels in the world and I felt it was portrayed rather unkindly.High hopes for the next one ...
review 2: Full Throttle is the seventh instalment in the Black Knights Inc. series, romantic suspense with some seriously hot alpha military men. This group is funny & fabulous and, with their banter and bromances, you can’t help but be swept up into this crazy world with them.Steady Hands, Cool Head...Carlos "Steady" Soto's nerves of steel have served him well at the covert government defense firm Black Knights Inc. But nothing has prepared him for the emotional roller coaster of guarding the woman he once loved and lost. Will All He's Got Be Enough?Abby Thomson is content to leave politics and international intrigue to her father-the President of the United States-until she's taken hostage half a world away, and she fears her father's policy of not negotiating with terrorists will be her death sentence. There's one glimmer of hope: the man whose heart she broke, but she can ever tell him why...As they race through the jungle in a bid for safety, the heat simmering between Steady and Abby could be a second chance for them-if they make it out alive.I had a love/hate relationship with Carlos and Abby throughout this book, they were not my favourite couple in this particular book or series. Abby was a touch too much with the ridiculous cursing, it just got on my nerves and while I understand it’s supposed to be a quirky funny part of her personality it didn’t work for me.“Son of a biscuit!” “Well, cinnamon-toasted Jesus!”“Son of a silverback gorilla!”No, No, No! I prefer my son a bitch to be called a son of a bitch thank you very much…..Carlos and Abby have a lot of guilt and baggage to work through from an incident and its consequences many years ago. The attraction between them did not have enough chemistry for me and this is possibly because I didn’t connect with Abby. Having said that when they are in the jungle, after Carlos made his decision to go `Lone Wolf McQuade-ing it`, I liked their interactions and enjoyed them but the sex scenes were just meh for me which is unusual for this series. The couple who did grab me were Dan and Penni - they were believable, hot with chemistry and my heart ached for both, I am intrigued as to where the author will take these two together or apart. The story is fast paced and my heart stuttered at one point with an injured character thinking would she? No not him…. She wouldn’t? It romps along with the action and banter which the whole series does so well. As a continuation of the world and characters she has created it works to lead us to the next but as a standalone in the series for me is the weakest. Will I read the next though? Hell yes especially to see what Dan, and a certain injured man-whore are up to!! less
