review 1: This book made me cry,and feel many things in the process of reading it. How Daelyn thought there was no other way to stop her pain but by committing suicide. But as the days went by and her countdown began Santana came into her life. Along the way Santana made her realize many things about life and in the process changed her way of seeing things. He was like her personal Angel who was there for her 24/7 even when she didn't want him around. Until one day she found out about Santana's problems and she realized that life could go on even if it was stormy at the moment. Santana taught her that no matter how hard things were you had to keep pushing to get through them and that at the end of every storm there was always a rainbow. This made Daelyn's mind set change and realize... more that the idea of suicide was dumb and from then on she tried and live life no matter what she went trough knowing she had someone by her side.
review 2: This novel, “By The Time You Read This, I’ll Be Dead” by Julie Anne Peters was very interesting to read. The main character is Daelyn Rice, who also tells the story. Other characters include Santana, a nerdy guy who won’t give up on making Daelyn his friend, but Daelyn doesn’t want friends. She’s a victim of bullying, leading all the way back to kindergarten. She finds a website online called ‘Through the Light’. It’s a website for people who want to commit suicide, or bullycide; suicide to escape bullying and harassment. Daelyn can’t wait to go, and fears living more than she does dying.I enjoyed this book very much because it tells the truth about bullying and didn’t romanticize it at all. It tells how love doesn’t always save you from yourself, and sometimes love doesn’t come at all. The writing was beautiful and I especially liked the end. If the subject of suicide or bullying isn’t touchy for a person then I would definitely recommend this read to someone. This has become one of my favorite books and I’m interesting in finding out if Julie Anne Peters has written anything else. It isn’t apart of a series, and I’m glad it isn’t because it adds more mystery to Daelyn. I hope anyone else who reads this likes it as much as I did. less
