review 1: Recommended by a co-worker after reading something as heavy at The Yellow Birds. She is a huge Romance reader (I am not) and suggested Julie James as the go-to choice. It was fine overall and had some funny moments but formulaic and the typical romance story that I tend to shy away from. Nothing new learned here but the writing was better than I'm used to. Nice book to escape from more serious subjects.
review 2: I was struggling on whether to give this a 3 or 4 stars rating. I would put this in the 3.5 category as it was better than okay but not good enough to be 4 stars.I love the cover! It made the girly girl in my squel! AND weddings always make me smile. In my opinion, when a book garners so much praise, tread carefully. I was surprised that the contents o
... moref the book were so different to the tone of the cover. That may not have been a bad thing.Their first meeting was very cliche and it did not get the book off to a good start. It just seemed so staged how they met at the coffee shop, had a extremely awkward encounter and then realize they are meeting the same people. It seemed like the coffee shop scene was done just to make things seem very convuluted and more dramatic.I loved that our two MCs were so passionate about their careers and I got to learn more about private equity and have an inside look into the day to day operations of an undercover FBI agent. The focus on their careers is unexpected but very interesting. This read is far from light and fun but very comtemporary. Vaughn was the one who needed the most change in this book. No doubt he is admirable in his professional achievements and has a great relationship with his family - I love the Roberts family! there is much to be desired for his non commitment take on relationships. I personally found him lacking. One scene in particular annoyed me."Vaughn's gaze fell on the cute curve of Sidney's ass as she laughed at something his mother said" first eww, that is pervertic. I do not know how this does not sound disturbing. It would have been romantic if he noticed how she and his mom got along or how nice her laugh is. Her ass? Come on, what part of laughing and a person's butt are related? This fuels the stereotype that guys notice looks first, and that it is all that fills their minds. Through the book, Vaughn cannot seem to stop talking about Sidneys physical assets: boobs, ass, legs....it seems like he is pushing more then her. I did not like it. Okay, there is nothing wrong with admiring a lady's physical attributes but it would be nice to balance it with some of her inner qualities as well.Sidney's confidence and competence is inspiring. I love that the author created a MC who is very career driven and successful. It inspires. The fact that Sidney was burnt and is so reluctant to date Vaughn makes her relatable. She may be very good at her job but she is scared to be hurt again. She did annoy me at times but her love for her sister was very real and sweet. There is more to like about Sidney.I feel that there is no genuine chemistry at first. I admired these two as individuals based on their commitment to careers but their "romance" has no spark. If sparks refer to lust well then I do not buy it. There is more to chemistry than physical attraction. The whole no strings attached situation did noylt work as well. I hate it when two people are all "noo we arent together, we do not like each other" when others can see it and it eventually becomes obvious to the individuals. And then.........they admit to it. It would have been easier if you just admitted to it in the first place. That would have saved the reader all the trouble. I did see spark in their everyday conversations eventually like when they listen to each other and Vaughn gives Sidney advice. I think it was sweet that he changed the fire alarm's cover for her. The sex scenes are steamy though.Another thing I like is the relationships between various characters. The writing was good in making these relationships flow easily and enjoyable to read. I love the conversations between Vaughn and his friends, Simon, Sidney and Isabelle, Vaughn and his family. In general most were good except Sidney and Vaughn. It was sweet to see how Simon and Isabelle dealt with so many things like the pregnancy and the wedding together. It was so romantic that they are so sure of each other.I enjoy reading about the preparations for the wedding like dress selecting, the bridal shower...the complications of Isabelle's pregnancy just make this experience very different and fresh. How do you plan a wedding when you are a few months pregnant? I find it funny how Sidney, Simon and Isabelle try to hide her pregnancy through some really funny antics.Reviews of the author's previous books describe that character interaction and dialogue is witty, fun, humourous and basically it alludes to some great characters. I felt skepticism over because writing is so subjective. When I began reading this I actually found Sidney and Vaughn's conversations and thoughts very annoying. I was glad that it got better later on in the book. The ending was rather standard. I have to say there are alot of ups and downs in this book. But I would like to read this author again. less

A perfectly good, predictable, happily-ever-after read. Sometimes you just need one of those!
