review 1: I have been wanting to read this origin story ever since it was released, but I wasn't really interested in reading the other stories included. Then I found this story for cheap on audible and had to scoop it up! I really enjoyed it. It was dark and spooky and a great lead in to the Immortal Rules trilogy. There is even a Kanin cameo! There was only one thing I was confused about. The title is Dawn of Eden. When I first heard about it, I just thought of it as a reference to the series, but as the story unfolded I kept thinking we were going to see the start of the city Eden. In the end, while the characters seemed determined to fight and protect their land, the property wasn't on water (and was in the wrong part of the country) and thus couldn't be the start of the human o... morenly haven. I'm confused whether I read too much in to the title or missed something.
review 2: I was enjoying this book, for the most part, for the better half of it. It takes place before the rest of the series, and captures the creepy feel of this world that keeps me reading/interested. The short story then got to a pretty graphic sex scene...which I wasn't expecting in a YA book. I'm fine with the classic pg13 stuff...but this was more than a 2 pages worth. Hard to skim past. Kinda ruined it for me, tbh. Then in the end the couple seemed to just end up together. I mean, their differences (which were many) seemed like they should have been worked through and not as easy. But I guess this was a SHORT story, and not a book. But still, it felt too rushed and for the author to say that the narrator was "irrevocably" in love with someone they pretty much just met just made me have Twilight flashbacks.... less
