review 1: This story is about a mentally impaired girl who is sent to live on a farm with an older couple and a pregnant teenager, and who goes on a quest to find the teenager's son when he disappears. Undoubtedly the strongest thing about this novel were the chapters written in Lucy's voice. Sarkissian did a great job inhabiting the limits of her mental capacities; the first chapter was especially excellent, voicing the child-like-ness and obsessiveness of a young woman who seemed to be somewhere on the autistic spectrum, although she was correctly never labeled. Unfortunately, the plot itself got a little bogged down in the well-worn territory of older woman made kind of crazy by a past tragedy. Also, the novel never stated when and where it took place. It seemed to be in a rural... more community sometime in the past (mid-twentieth century, maybe?). The fact that the setting was not stated in this somewhat unusual story was an unnecessary distraction in an otherwise fast-paced and readable novel.
review 2: This was one book I was very excited to receive from a first reads giveaways. I really enjoyed that writing style and it was a very interesting concept. Lucy had no filter on her thoughts and I liked that but I didn't (sometimes being brutally honest isn't the best thing). I thought the author did a great job build the plot but I had a big problem with the ending (or the lack of one). But overall this was a very good read! I would recommend. less

It was different. Definitely had some surprises. Some rather disturbing. Otherwise pretty good

The ending was MEH. I got through the book and then felt cheated at the end.

Unusual but I enjoyed this book. Persevere, I'm glad I finished reading it.
