review 1: He was my hero. He broke my heart. This book reminded me again why I fell for his story & why mine & most of America's hearts got broken. This book is a very well-written account of the rise & fall of the man who made us believe in his fairy tale. This account is definitely biased. The author clearly had a point of view to share - that this serial liar who is conceited beyond belief (even now) was heading up a sophisticated, mafia-type doping operation in the years before his cancer diagnosis through all the years he illegitimately won 7 Tour de France races. She made her point clearly, and I enjoyed & agree with her point of view.I loved this book. But he yet again broke my heart. Even through all his supposed "coming clean", he still believes what he did was not wrong & ... morejustifies it to this day, vilifying anyone who says anything different. That's his extreme arrogance & inability to be even a little bit humble coming through in a big way.Really great read. Engaging & enlightening. Couldn't put it down in parts. This books gets more like 4.5 stars from me. :)
review 2: Let me start by saying that I am the cycling fan I am because of Lance Armstrong. It's not popular to be an Armstrong fan any longer. So I approached this book with some hesitancy. All in all I think it is fairly written. Lance is no doubt an egotistical jerk who got carried away with his greatness, got caught up in it, and couldn't break the "cycle." Yes, I was offended. But I was equally offended by the actions of others, including his teammates and his coaches and his doctors. Finally, I was the most offended by Tygart. He ran over as many people making his case against Lance as Lance did in his racing career. Lance helped thousands of cancer victims. Tygart believes he cleansed the sport of cycling. Who did the most good??? less

How could I have been duped by such an arrogant jerk? I guess I was in good company.

In hindsight, it appears that Lance Armstrong was a bit of a jerk.
